Message to SPHI School Community

Dear Parents, Teachers, Staff and members of YPPH and YUPH Community,

With immense appreciation for his service and leadership, it falls to me, on behalf of the leadership of Sekolah Pelita Harapan International, to make it  known that Brian Cox will step down from his position at SPHI as of June 2012 with the extension of 6 months to help with the transition of the new Head of School.

Brian Cox has been a beloved member of our community for the last 10 years. He has invested his life in the lives of our students, both in the classroom and at a personal level, leading students to spiritual, emotional, and intellectual maturity. He has been an example to our students of a life lived in Christ, and an embodiment of a Godly leader. To our parents, his words of Godly wisdom have become a guide in raising children in the Lord, and a model of a heart of devotion to God.

Through Brian, we have witnessed God’s hand in guiding SPHI to yet another milestone towards a Christ-centered education. Brian’s commitment for Christian education, his grounded theological understanding and his pastoral heart have been an inspiration to all of us. His continued devotion in developing Christian leaders and teachers with a solid Biblical framework is a testament to his Christ-centered life. It has challenged us to critically evaluate issues from a Christian perspective and as a result, taken us to new heights in teaching and leadership. His involvement has lead to the expansion of institutions within the YPPH foundation such as the founding of new SPHI campuses and the UPH teachers college.

All this would be hard to accomplish without his wife, Maureen. Not only has her presence been felt through her role as a teacher, but more importantly as a supportive and prayerful wife.  Maureen has shared her life with our students leaving a legacy that will not be forgotten.

The impact of Brian’s work in response to the call of Christian education will extend beyond the students of this place and time. The seeds that have been sown will reach out beyond what is visible to us here and now to transform our society and time. Our prayers go with him and his wife, Maureen as they continue to follow God’s calling for their lives in becoming a blessing to schools in their journey of Christian education. We are also happy to know that Brian and Maureen will be spending more time with his children and grandchildren. We trust that God will continue His work at SPHI and a search committee will be formed shortly for replacement purposes.

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be all the glory forever. Amen”
Spoken by Aileen Riady (Associate Head of School) in Staff Chapel October 12 2011
