It is with great pleasure that I introduce ourselves to you. We are a multinational Christian staff including nationals and expatriates recruited worldwide. With joy and diligence, we ensure that every child grows in faith and knowledge thereby reaching their full potential that God has planned for them. For us this means retaining the best teachers using best practice within the IB PYP program set within a Christian ethos. This school is a second home to your children. Our desire is for students to be in a happy, challenging, nurturing environment to complement the parents role in preparing students for a good future.
The Junior School at SekolahPelitaHarapanInternational is a thriving place where joy, laughter and kindness abound. At the same time students learn how to respectfully listen to the views of each other while recognizing that classrooms are orderly with a sense of industry. The curriculum is intentionally structured within a Christian world view which includes being in awe of God, and recognizing that individual ideas are respected but must be measured, along with our actions, against God's standards which are above ours. We aim to develop in students a sense of caring for others that are different from them. We seek to nurture the whole student to reach their full potential in a balanced spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and physical life.
Expectations of student performance are high. They are achieved by utilizing our experienced teaching staff. Staff are expected to continue their training to remain at the forefront of excellence in education. We provide a learning environment that is responsive to present needs and possibilities. The PYP program includes the most up to date pedagogy and in the hands of our dedicated teachers this program, allows students to excel in their areas of strength and to build capacity in their areas of weakness. Skills developed in various disciplines are integrated through the units of inquiry which challenge students to use higher levels of thinking and to use their developing skills in the context of real issues.
Classes range from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The Kindy-2 class with about 21 students has three full time teachers. Every other class up to grade three has two fulltime teachers including one expatriate with English expertise and one national with Bahasa Indonesian expertise. All students are helped to develop both languages and to be able to use them both in the units of inquiry. The older classes have an average of 1.5 full time teachers. In addition specialist teachers are utilized in Performing Arts, Physical Education and Visual Arts.
At all times we align our student expectations, curriculum outcomes and school practices with our Mission, Vision and Values. The school is not the bricks and facilities, as wonderful as they are here with swimming pools gymnasiums, labs, cafeterias and technologies. This school is the living stones of children, parents and teachers and other staff all building up together prayerfully in unity of purpose under God. We see our students as multi-dimensional unique individuals. Each individual is precious to encourage, teach, correct and challenge as they develop in character and ability. Under God's provision they will develop into future leaders and citizens who will positively impact their school, neighbourhoods and countries.
